The project follows from an architectural competition in 2020, developed in collaboration with Agraff Arkitekter. Loneliness is a growing challenge in Norway, and in recent years loneliness and social exclusion among students have in particular been highlighted as important issues. Hjem 2.0 explores how architecture can contribute to creating a sense of belonging, social safety and the feeling of home, especially for students who have moved away from family and friends, or who experience feeling alone.
The project examines how a contemporary student housing development for approximately 800 residents can support community through well-designed meeting places and a spatial structure that makes it easy to take part in social life. The ambition is to create a place that balances shared spaces and privacy, and that is experienced as inclusive, safe and accessible.
